Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever technology they use to browse it.
Our target
This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Accessibility is treated as a build requirement rather than an audit performed afterwards.
What we have done
- Semantic landmarks and a logical heading order on every page.
- A skip link so keyboard users can jump straight to the main content.
- A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, with a contrast ratio that holds against the dark background.
- Full keyboard operation, including the mobile menu, which traps focus while open, closes on Escape, and returns focus to the button that opened it.
- Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- Form errors that are announced, linked to their field, and marked with an icon as well as color, status is never signaled by color alone.
- Respect for the prefers-reduced-motion setting: scroll reveals, the moving statement band and background video are all disabled when it is on.
- Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling from 320 px upward, and touch targets sized for comfortable use on a phone.
- No autoplaying audio anywhere on the site.
Known limitations
- Some photographs carry text baked into the image. Where that text matters, it is repeated in the surrounding markup.
- The GovTotal product video has no captions because it contains no speech. It is decorative and is never the only source of any information.
